Starters go out when they are used a lot. Understood. I started having an intermittent connection while trying to start it. To me, it seemed like the starter solenoid has started to oxidize and make a weak connection. Replacing the starter fixed my issue. The thing is, I had to take off the entire fuel injection and throttle body assembly just to get to the starter. I think the starter is located in a convenient place for aesthetics (top center of V8 block), but it's definitely not located in a place that makes it easy to replace.
I think the starter was like $300 and I also replaced the throttle body seal which was like $40 while I was at it. Oh, and I had to buy a plastic fuel line releaser to remove the fuel line from the injection lines. Don't buy a metal one. You need plastic for it to flex into the housing. You'll know what I'm talking about if you get into it.
