Versa Note SV 1.6L

  • CVT transmission
  • 63,522 miles

The heat shield for the gas tank and exhaust tore at bolts and had to be replaced, since it was a potential fire hazard. The part cost about $100 and the labor was $250, plus the cost of a rental car. Sounds like it could have been re-attached a lot cheaper. Although, it would only prolong the shield's life. It eventually would have to be replaced. I liked the shield to thick aluminum foil. It's poorly designed and obviously done so to save Nissan money.

Not long after this fix the heat shields over the rest of the exhaust came loose and started rattling. It's heard mostly while starting car and accelerating. I don't want to spend the surely more expensive 3 part heat shield and labor at Nissan. Since it's a KNOWN issue, Nissan should pay for it.

I'm tempted to buy the heat shields and replace them myself. Just need a larger washer with the provided bolts. I don't advise just removing the heat shields. There's a good reason they are present. Spend the money on the replacement heat shields and do the labor yourself or let your mechanic do it...not Nissan.

Versa Note SV 1.5L I4

The exhaust heat shields on my 2014 Nissan Versa Note are flimsy and poorly engineered. Almost all of the mounting points have corroded so that the shield falls away from the retaining bolt(s), causing annoying rattles. I have carried out some temporary fixes by installing oversized washers between the shield(s) and the retaining nuts, but today one of the bolt studs actually snapped off because of a corroded nut refused to budge. Now am not sure what I can do to fix this no, so likely will continue to rattle loudly?

This heat shield problem is apparently so common, that I am surprised that Nissan hasn't issued a recall?

There is also an annoying "chirping" sound when pulling away from a stop, that only disappears when the engine RPM climbs above 2000 RPM

car has only 58000kms of relatively easy use on it, yet feels like it's going downhill quickly despite being pampered.

no more Nissan for me. Going back to Toyota.

Versa Note S 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 41,000 miles

exhaust heat shield rattle, increasingly noisy

Mechanic reattached original, extremely thin/cracking heat shield with very large washers. Lasted about 10k miles, then pulled it off myself. Now two of the other exhaust heat shields have begun rattling as well. Very annoying racket.
