failing catalytic converter causes vehicle to overheat

Catalytic converter needed replacement since about 6 months ago. Were told not to worry about it. After a while the noise from the Catalytic converter got significantly louder and started to notice the temperature gauge go up. After researching online i was made aware that the exhaust gases don't flow properly and get backed up in the exhaust system causing the engine to heat up.

The Nissan Xterra needs a new catalytic converter. This happened at around 140,000 miles. It is very expensive to fix because it is a 4 wheel drive model.
