Xterra 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 139,000 miles

I drove out to Arizona to visit my father and on the way back I started to feel a vibration. When I made it back into California the vibration was getting to the point I was scared to drive this thing. I pulled it into my driveway and had my wife put the car in neutral and put her foot on the brake so I could check out the U joints under the car and they were completely shot. The front one was the worst out of all of them. I didn't have the right tools to take the drive shaft out and change them myself so I went to my local mechanic who did it for about $250. I know these go out over time but I have had a Mazda pickup that had factory u joints for 220,000 miles, so I now know Nissan put cheap parts in this thing. I mean look at all the problems everyone has run into with this thing.

Xterra X 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

Purchased an '06 Xterra and after paying the private seller for the vehicle it started having issues. The vehicle would vibrate and then rumble (like you were driving over a speed bump) intermittently at various speeds. The transmission shop stated is would cost $3,000 to $3,500 to repair. I spoke to the person that sold me the vehicle and told me "good luck" the problem is all yours.

If I use the button on the shifter to turn the overdrive off, I do not have the problem, but driving the car in this mode will not be very good especially on the highway long term.
