problem #1

Xterra 4.0L 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 144,500 miles

Transmission was slipping in the upper gears quite violently and the radiator had some unidentifiable goop in it. Flushed radiator and drained transmission... Installed fresh transmission fluid and radiator coolant... Test drove the vehicle and now it was hesitating to shift in lower gears and slipping between 2nd and 3rd... Not violently but it's still slipping some.

When the transmission fluid was drained, it looked like an oily strawberry/chocolate milk shake that had unthawed so I told my daughter to take the vehicle to a transmission expert to run tests and look it over and this is when we found out that this has been a problem since 2005 with these Nissan vehicles leaking coolant into the transmission through the radiator... Biggest complaint is that the used car dealer said my daughter could bring it back to them and they would fix the problem and add the cost to the sales price (I'll let you come up with your own thoughts about that !!!).
