problem #1

Alero GLS 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

This intermittent whining noise is possibly the timing chain/chain tensioner/chain guides in the very early stages of failure. Since the noise hasn't yet made an appearance when I have had the car in front of a GM mechanic, no one can say what it is. If it is the timing chain, it must be replaced before it slips because this is an interference engine and the pistons will crunch the valves...BIG repair bill if this happens...
