About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
2001 olds Aurora with 62K actual miles has hard/no steering at slow speed (turning into parking lot...driveway etc). Taken to dealer...dealer installed shaft, bearings and cleaned.repaired the pwr steering pump and the problem still exists...happens on and off...dealer can not find a problem....

Consumer had to turn key in the ignition several times before it turned over. Also, gas gauge failed to read the correct level of fuel in the gas tank. In addition, there was a clanking noise in the steering wheel. Dealership ran a diagnostic test, but no failure codes appeared. Dealership replaced several parts, but all three problems still exist.

It is GM' policy not to mandate their dealers to have their suspension alignment equipment software up to date for the new model year autos. The software updates is typically a year behind. Hence dealers are not able to diagnose suspension problems nor whne replacing made suspension parts asure that suspension is in proper alignement. This could cause poor handling and possibly an accident. The suspension alignment equipment manufactures seem to offer two maintainane packages. One is a cheaper package which is a year behind. I can not understand why we can allow dealers to service new cars with out having the poper equipment to assure its safety.
