Grand Prix 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 73,000 miles

Turning the steering wheel left or right, moving or at a stop, a squeaking noise can be heard and felt along with an occasional "POP" feeling. Had the same issue on my 01 Bonneville. Sad that GM didn't fix this in the 7 years since my Bonneville!

I first noticed the steering wheel issue when I left the car lot and immediately wanted to let the dealer know what was going on with the vehicle. I finished the test drive home. After having it overnight I mentioned it to the dealer if they could have it checked out in which I was told it was the characteristics for Pontiac vehicles and wasn't a safety issue. Well in the mean time I went online and found that this issue was very similar for the Pontiac G6 2008 and brought it to the dealers attention, and asked if they could check the intermediate steering shaft. Sure enough that was the problem. I was warned that this issue may occur after 20,000 miles or so again. I was also informed Pontiac never redesigned the intermediate steering shaft and if they would have redesigned it there might would have been a lot of recalls.
