problem #1

Grand Prix 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

SAFETY HAZARD! Transmission will slip then SLAM into gear randomly at stop lights. It feels like you just revved it in neutral then dropped it into drive! Very violent- the first time it happened I thought someone had rear ended me! Had the filter and fluid changed. Didn't help one bit.

When first starting out, gear changes "flutter" when the transmission shifts, it takes almost 3 seconds for the next gear to actually engage.

Also, when in stop and go traffic in southern CA, the transmission jerks... it feels like your riding with a first time manual transmission driver!!! It seems the hotter the weather and drivetrain... the worse it gets.

Once hot, shifts become very rough and the car goes up through the gears MUCH faster.... normal operation the tcc locks up at about 40 mph. When the trans is hot (after driving for 30 minutes on the highway) the car will shift to 4th and tcc lock up at 30-35 mph!!! Many times the rpms actually drop to 1,000 and bounce from 1,000 to 1,400, back to 1,000 until I either force a downshift or speed up quickly.

Oh yeah..... THIS IS ITS SECOND TRANSMISSION! !!! The first was replaced under warranty at 34k in 2010 by General Motors. So I guess 30-40k miles is the maximum lifespan of this piece of $ h**!!!!

After researching this I've found I'm not alone with a horrid transmission. Sad!

I'll never buy another GM!!!!
