Vibe

having trouble with check engine light and shifting hard on upshift. I believe that it is a pressure control solenoid. Is this something that I can fix myself? I am fairly mechanically inclined and have the space/time to do so.

Like the other reports, my engine light came on for the transmission code P2716, the pressure control selenoid. My vibe has just over 41K miles and having transmissions issues was something I never had to deal with when I owned my Subaru! I called the garage and now I know he was giving me a line about the engine code...

Does anyone know if this tends to be a reoccurring problem? I'll make sure to give you an update after my visit to the garage.

Update from Oct 27, 2010: After reading everyone's issue with their 2006 Vibe engine light code: P2716 I went to the dealership with my research and prepared to pay $500-995 for the repair. I was pleasantly surprised when the repair was covered in full with 41K miles.

Per Invoice: Tech removed and replaced PCM and programmed 0321/6051 J6360.9.

I had hopes that it was just the gas cap when the check engine light came on, but like the others, it was my transmission (code P2716), the pressure control solenoid. The odd thing is, the problem went away on the drive home which leads me to believe that it might be something with the wiring to the solenoid, perhaps being loose or short circuiting. Alas, it seems like it will take some cash to get to the bottom of the issue.

While I'm here, I want to correct another complaint: the transmission and engine are BOTH Toyota, same as in the Matrix, and the Corolla too, I believe.

I suppose I should be thankful this one failed before 36K miles -- unlike the other owners, below -- but on the other hand, a relatively new car shouldn't have the solenoid fail!!

The dealer (Flemington Pontiac) cannot be described as helpful, friendly, or even polite in trying to resolve this problem. They were falling all over themselves in being nice when I was buying the car, but now that it comes to service? Forget it.

This is the first (and, likely, last) American made car I'll ever own.

I am not a happy camper....400 miles outside warranty and the check engine light comes on due to transmission problems. TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS at 36,000 miles..HELLO, there is no wonder why people purchase Toyota and Honda vehicles! I have owned three GM vehicles, and went with the Vibe because it contains a Toyota engine. I was NOT expecting the transmission solenoids to go bad. I have heard of solenoids going bad but not until a vehicle had gone at least 80,000 miles and/or had been abused (not properly taken care of). My Vibe is going in on Monday with an estimated cost is $500.00 to fix. If after replacing these solenoids, the problem returns before I hit 100,000 miles, I will pay to replace the solenoids again, but will drive it to the nearest Toyota dealership and trade in my GM loyalty for something with a reputation for dependability, reliability, and a manufacturers warranty of 100,000 miles bumper to bumper!!!!!

i just got rid of a Hyundai accent 2001 where the transmission went out while the check engine light on traded that in for the Pontiac with low miles and this check engine light went on.
