problem #2

1500 SLT Hemi

Purchased truck new from dealer. Within one month, Touch Screen Entertainment Console would freeze up and cease functioning. This remained until you turned off vehicle and left it off for a period of 3-5 minutes. Additionally, the instrument cluster would shut down and then reboot while driving, which is quite a scare when it happens as you loose all displays in your console and do not know if the instrument cluster will come back on.

Numerous software updates performed as i was told it the software was out of date then that might be part of the problem as to why the radio and instrument cluster would cease operating. Never heard of this happening on any other vehicle by other manufacturers. This was the common thread by the Dealer here in Appleton WI, always a software issue but never bother performing additional checks.

Flash of software performed and 22 hours after flashing software update instrument cluster failed again and within 3 days Entertainment console locked up again, rendering touch screen useless and all controls on touch screen useless. This also prevented me from making phone calls via bluetooth, accessing navigation system, climate controls on touchscreen, it disabled steering wheel controls for changing radio stations, adjusting volume and made entire entertainment console useless until you shut off truck for period of 3-5 minutes to allow system to reset itself.

Spoke with Ram Customer care and they decided to replace Entertainment Console and told me this would resolve BOTH issues as the instrument cluster and entertainment console were controlled by same unit. This was per Anthony at Ram Customer Service.

Console was replaced on 2/24/2014 and system worked fine for 6 days.

Entertainment console system seems to be functioning normally.

Instrument Cluster has failed 4 more times since then. Also had to contact SiriusXm because radio quit working altogether. After some checking it seemed the Dealer failed to change over radio ID from one radio to the other, even though he had asked for the information to do so. After 30 minutes on phone with SiriusXM i resolved the problem.

I attempted to contact Anthony for a period of 3 days, leaving him voicemails about problem only to find out that the initial case had been closed and Anthony no longer worked for Ram Customer Care.

A new case was opened, pulling information from old case and they decided to order a new instrument cluster for my truck and replace it.

After speaking with new case manager, who asked what i expected from Ram in regards to this problem, i told him i expected to have a working truck - not a truck that needs constant software updates to work correctly, not a truck that the radio and entertainment center quits working several times a month, not a truck that when the instrument cluster goes out while i am driving i don't have to wonder if the cluster will come back on or not. I also advised them i new of my right under Wisconsin law in regards to Lemon Law Protection and that if the problem occurred again I would be fling a claim and seeking a new vehicle.

New cluster installed this morning and will be driving to check and see if this resolved problem

dash lights all go on, then poof they go off, stranded once

bought the truck in july 2013, had a remote start/alarm put in via the dealer (they sent it to a 3rd party). Since august ive had the SAME ISSUE. hen driving ALL the dash lights go on then POOF go off, gauges spike off too. 5 minutes later they all "Cycle" back on...but then the check engine light and electronic brake light stays on. One time this happened I was stopped at a stop light, and when the dash lights went off, my transmission went from drive to Park. It would not go into ANY gear till the dash and electronics cycled back on. And this was on my way home FROM picking the truck up from the dealer for the SAME PROBLEM!!. Dealer has for the 1st several visits blamed it on the remote start/alarm. They removed it, and then put it back in. Eventually after another occurrence they asked if we can put a factory alarm in, with the thinking that its probably the computer getting confused with a different alarm. I agreed to put the factory alarm, several days later...problem is back. I've escalated this, called the attorney general who told me to call Chrysler 1st and if no resolution to call the attorney general back. Chrysler has a case # and a case manager on it and talked to the dealer. Dealer is supposedly working with the 5 star engineers to resolve. I am at the point where if it is not fixed this time around I want an exchange/different truck via lemon law. If they do finally fix it, something should be done or given for the troubles. The time the truck died at the stop light I was lucky my kids and I were not killed due to the traffic that was avoiding hitting us despite having our hazards on.
