The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle started to run rough as smoke was emitted through the vents. The contact was able to stop in a parking lot and upon exiting the vehicle with his passenger smoke was seen coming from under the hood. The vehicle was towed to daystar Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (206 S carrollton St, malvern, oh 44644) where the failure was diagnosed as the exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler was fractured causing a fire. The egr cooler was replaced. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer to have the glow plug and the cylinder replaced due to the fire. The contact stated that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 19V757000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

The contact extinguished the fire by throwing sand on the engine and a passerby was able to assist with extinguishing the fire. The vehicle was towed to planet Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (9975 nw 12th St, miami, fl 33172, (305) 470-8000) where it was determined that the failure was due to a burnt and melted egr cooler. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
