Buyers beware! Turbos are known to go on Saabs! I was surprised that this website was not littered with turbo complaints. Many threads online say the life of a turbo usually does not exceed 130,000 miles and my car was at 129,000, so unfortunately it was time. If you have a Saab 9-5 with the V6, be prepared to pay even more to fix the turbo, even double. V6 engines are not as common in Saabs and are therefore harder to find refurbished parts to go the cheap route. To buy OEM parts you're looking at spending at least $2,000 for a new turbo. I'm in the process of getting my Saab fixed at the moment, I will try to remember to update after the whole fiasco is done for specifics on price/time/headache.
Symptoms of a bad turbo include: blue/white smoke coming out tailpipe along with oil and limited power when driving.
