problem #3

9-7X 8-cyl

  • 120,000 miles
In March 2014, while operating the vehicle, the warning bell sounded, and an engine light (with down arrow) illuminated. The driver information center displayed "stabilitrak off", and the car immediately slowed from 45mph to 15mph. The speed of the vehicle would not pass 25mph, and there wasn't even enough power to climb a small hill. After deploying the hazard indicator, and pulling over, the engine was shut off. Upon waiting 2-3 minutes and restarting the engine, the problem did not recur. Since then, the problem has recurred at least 3 dozen times, and it is becoming more frequent. This fault can easily have catastrophic results.

My vehicle has a very strong gas odor inside and outside. You can walk by the rear of vehicle and smell gas. The gas odor is really strong when I put gas in SUV.

Engine light with apparent cylinder misfires on cylinders 1, 4, 6 or 7 - believed to be possible afm lifter concern. Dealership wants to rip entire engine apart and claims 28-30 hours of labor at approximately $3500. This does not include parts (quoted $7500 total). They allege camshaft needs to be replaced. GM willing to extend 15% discount but has essentially declined that vehicle has a mechanical and/or defective part. Lifter appears to be defective. Vehicle has 60K miles.
