tC 2.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 15,000 miles

The handle for the hatch is held on by plastic clips. It is not strong enough to support lifting the weight of the back glass so it breaks off. That's why you see so many tC with them taped on. You have to learn to just pop the trunk and then put your finger tips under the trunk lid next to the bumper and lift it from there because there is no fix for this ridiculous design flaw. This car is very cheaply made and a lot of quality corners were cut.

Should have been designed better but Toyota fixed it for free so I can't complain.

Broken Trunk Broken Trunk

ive seen about 10 -12 scions same year with this same issue, some pieces are completely off, i taped mine on because it looks like crap without it. Why is there not a recall? who uses plastic screws to hold a piece that opens your trunk??
