problem #2

Jul 132022

Crosstrek LX 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

At only 46k miles, the compressor is failing. Shouldn't be, I'd say. Mechanic tells me that his parts suppliers suggest this is a recurring issue with this model.

Update from Sep 6, 2022: Subaru didnt acknowledge that this is 'anomalous' for a car the young. I ended up having the compressor, dryer, and condenser replaced. Nearly 2g later, its blowing cold. The only issure remaining is whether this compressor will last. The ONLY compressor available was the exact same unit as had failed. Not an updated/replaced unit.

problem #1

Jul 092020

Crosstrek Premium 2.0L L. Gas

  • Manual transmission
  • 16,000 miles

A/C initially cooled well but after about 10 minutes it wouldn't hold stable cold temp first in 8/19. I had to keep adjusting the A/C temperature control up and down to maintain a stable temp. Dealer replaced compressor under warranty that month.

11 mos. later same problem. The dealer replaced compressor again on 7/10/20. Eight days later same problem.

Wrote letter of complaint to servicing dealer, Romano Subaru Syracuse, NY business mgr. on 7/20/20 and I am awaiting a reply.

I am worried that if this keeps happening when my basic warranty runs out at end of July 2021 I will then have to pay out of pocket for future repairs.

In reading Crosstrek Forum posts it sounds like this is a very common problem in this car over a number of years but there has been no recall or other remedial action taken by Subaru.

This problem is very annoying, especially in the July heat.

Any recommendations on how to proceed to get this problem fixed would be greatly appreciated.
