Forester L 2.5L Horizontal 4

Got a check engine light so I checked it with a computer tool. It said cylinder 3 & 4 were misfiring and it needed a new valve cover gasket. I had it diagnosed at the local reputable mechanic. They said it needed a valve job and would cost $4000 to fix. They told me it wasn't worth fixing and to get a new car. A year and a half later I am still driving my car. I go on long trips all the time with it, even over mountain passes in snowstorms. I just have to make sure to check the oil all the time because it leaks bad. Other than that, it's a good car.
