Forester 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,000 miles
The contact owns a 2005 Subaru Forester. While driving at an unknown highway speed, a burning rubber odor emitted into the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and parked. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the bucket suspension plate under the shock absorber failed, which impacted the suspension assembly on the rear passenger side and caused the strut to fracture on the tire. The dealer replaced the struts, shock assemblies, and both rear tires. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. Updated 02/03/17 updated 7/11/18

While driving from Florida noticed load noise. Upon inspection by mechanic was advised that wheel bearing had failed. Mechanic also advised that he had seen other similar problems with the Subaru Forester. Believe bearings in some models are defective and should be recalled before bearing fails while at high speed.
