problem #1

Mar 152011

Forester 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,862 miles

Problem started with check engine light coming on, car ran OK. Dealer diagnosed as ignition problem, replaced coil and ignition wires, cost $431.74. Two days later, check engine light on again. Problem disappeared before able to get back to dealer. A few days later, light on again, off again, on again.

Car shuddered to a stop out on the highway, towed to dealer. Dealer determined that valve guides had moved out of position. Piston hit valve, both engine heads replaced under warranty. In less than a week, check engine light on again, off, on. At this point, I got rid of car.
