Forester Limited 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 50,000 miles

My 2014 Subaru Forester continually surges, jumps, bucks anywhere from 0 - 35 mph, but it's especially noticeable going from a dead stop. It feels like the car is going to run out of gas, or it is misfiring. It never did this when it was test driven, but appeared only a week after purchasing. We took it in, and they "reset the computer", which cleared up the issue for a few days, and then the problem returned. It is a constant issue, which Subaru needs to fix.

We bought the car with 40,000 miles on it, and now have 83,000 miles on it, and the problem has not gotten any better with engine wear-in, or the computer supposedly learning how we drive. Like others who have complained, the dealer told us it is a common problem with CVTs, but I have a Toyota Prius with a CVT, and have never felt any jerking, bucking or surging from a dead stop to highway speeds.

We have a "1st" badge on our car because we were excited about purchasing our first Subaru. They were supposedly reliable cars with great resale value and supposedly last forever. However, we are now looking for a "last" badge we can put on our car, because we won't be buying a Subaru again.

I have asked at several dealerships at servicing and received no answers to the problem. It is hard to control the acceleration of the car as it takes off with little pressure on the gas pedal. In traffic this may cause an accident.

Forester Limited 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,840 miles

I was pulled into parking lot of IHOP, car surged and jumped the curb. I turned wheel to avoid car parked in front of me. Car surged over parking island and stopped on other side of parking lot. Tire on driver side was totally flat. Changed the tire and drove to SAMs (2 miles). Bought 4new tires. Then found out the A arm was bent out and right front tire rubs against tire well and the tie rods are bent caused by the A arm . Had to have it towed to body shop. since today is Thanksgiving now sure what total damages are. Tire people said there was significant damage underneath. How can this happen? It was a simple parking lot curb...it's a Subaru supposed to climb over stuff.
