windshield cracked when it hit the first chip

2018 Impreza, one week old (I have not even filled it with gas) and it got a windshield crack when it hit a chip that fell on the road from a truck. Even though the chip was not projected by wheels but it fell under gravity, as soon as it hit the windshield it developed a crack that grew to 15 inches by the time I parked the car. This car replaced a 2000 Civic driven for 18 years with 200,000 km that still had the original windshield without any crack, only about 15 chip damages that have not turned into cracks. My guess is that either the 2018 Impreza windshield is low quality or it had some stress built in.

Update from Aug 17, 2018: The crack took a U shape and one morning when I woke up I found one new crack connecting those two parallel cracks. The evening before I checked the windshield and it was not there. This crack developed while was parked inside my garage.

Update from Aug 22, 2018: I contacted Subaru's customer service and asked them who manufactured the windshield as well as why I got 2017 manuals in the 2018 car. They have not responded after one week.
