Went to dealer and they replaced the flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate and throw-out bearing at my cost. I wrote a letter to Subaru and got a letter stating they would not provide any compensation because it was wearable part and beyond the 36,000 mile warranty. I have driven stick shift cars by entire life (71 years old) and did not abuse the clutch in any way. After the clutch was replaced I developed the habit of taking my foot off the clutch every time I stopped.

My present situation is the clutch needs to be replaced again at 111,000 miles. I will see what the dealer says about it but plan to have it replaced at an independent garage. There was an improvement this time as the clutch lasted 62,000 miles compared to the original 48,748 miles.
