I just made an appointment to have this problem fixed at the Subaru dealer. I am not sure if it just started or if we just noticed it. The service department says that there is no recall for it, but I am finding identical complaints by many other owners of the 2010 Subaru Legacy. They talk about passengers who weight about 120 pounds being in the seat but the indicator says Air Bag OFF. This is what I observed. One time I moved the seat forwards and back with the electrical controls and the sensor read out changed from OFF to ON. The failure to register the presence of a passenger in that seat is a serious hazard because in the case of an accident the air bag will not deploy.

I have tried for years to get the selling dealer to repair or replace. Of course when I take the car in for this it never fails to arm when a passenger sits down. My wife and I (both in our 70's) have been trained multiple times by the dealer (Larry Myers and now Jenkins) how to sit in a car seat. My wife (115#s) is the usual person sitting in the seat and granted she is small but I have met and seen many smaller Japanese. I also reported this to Subaru of USA and got no response. We live approximately 40 miles from dealership. Would you travel that far to make a false complaint about anything. I wonder if the driver AB works correctly?
