My torque converter required replacement. This has been a known problem for some time. Subaru won't recall the faulty part (which is causing stalling, vibrations, etc. in lots of vehicles). Instead Subaru offered an extended warranty up to 100,000 miles or ten years (whichever comes first). Everyone over that is SOL. Thanks, Subaru.

This is BS. Bought car and was told CVT never needs servicing.

Subaru will not issue a recall because it doesn't happen to all vehicles. However, they came out with an extended warranty and then by the time the problem gets so annoying I see them about it they said the warranty does not cover it. This is a significant problem. Even though they had to replace the head gasket etc. Unfortunately Subaru does not consider a stalling vehicle a safety issue. Perhaps it will take a few lawsuits for Subaru to address the problem.

Has anyone had any luck in small claims court against Subaru. I know this is a few grand to fix.

Very disappointed in Subaru telling me that they can not help with repairs because I am 7 weeks out of warranty. 2010 Outback wagon, well cared for with 116,000 miles. I did not have the service work done at the overpriced dealer and instead used local mechanics that did fine work at fairer prices. As an example: the dealer wanted $2000.00 dollars for a new timing belt and water pump at 100,000 miles. My local garage did a fine job for $900. Now the CVT trans is stuttering when you come to a stop and the motor stalls out. After Googling the problem, it's been well known by Subaru. I appear to be out of luck and on the hook for a repair bill that's going to be large.

This problem is the LAST straw. It's a SAFETY HAZARD !! A problem with the transmission at 116,000 mile - ABSURD. This car is a LEMON!

I will NEVER buy a Subaru ever again. It's one thing after the other. The commercials praise Subaru's as the safest carts on the road.

I would not put my worst enemy in this hunk of junk

I had an issue where my Subaru Outback would stall and shut off during sudden breaking. I took it to the dealer and had them look at it and they couldn't reproduce the issue and gave me my car back. When I went to pick up my car, I was able to get it to stall by breaking hard. I drove right back and had the Service Manager ride shotgun with my and I showed him what was going on. They took the car back in and had their master service tech look at it and diagnose it was a bad torque converter. It cost $1,500 for the dealer to replace it.

I have only owned this vehicle for a couple of weeks and it started stalling when I hit the brakes. Something is seriously wrong and I don't feel safe even driving because of the dangerous situation it presents. After taking it to two shops finally the last shop researched it and found that there has been several other complaints. This is dangerous and I will hold Subaru liable.
