Outback Premium 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 14 miles

We have a 2015 Outback and are experiencing a hesitation problem when starting from a full stop or inching up in traffic. It is actually dangerous. I know of three people in the area who have had accidents caused by this problem. An employee of the dealership informed me that an employee at the dealership had had an accident in their own parking lot and hit a parked car in the course of rearranging cars in a row in their parking lot because of this same problem.

There is enough hesitation and then a surge forward in start up or inching up in traffic behind other cars to make it real dangerous. When there is an opening in traffic and you try to accelerate there is anywhere from 1 to 3 or 4 second hesitation and then it surges forward at a rapid speed. You find yourself avoiding parallel parking in tight spaces and waiting until there is a big opening in traffic before pulling out or around a corner, particularly a left turn crossing traffic. It is an intermittent problem. No matter how carefully you feather the gas pedal you never know when it will move and then all of a sudden it lunges forward. I know at least 4 other Subaru owners who are complaining of the same thing.

The dealer said that was the way that transmission was supposed to work and there is no adjustment. Then I am told the dealer has had such an accident in their own lot. They must think the customers are stupid.

It is a very dangerous problem and at some point will cause a terrible accident. My neighbor was parking her car facing a tree in her yard and had it happen and hit a large tree doing a large amount of damage. This woman has driven for many years without a single accident or incident.

We have owned Subaru cars since 1975, but I am not going to buy another Subaru again. I have been very disappointed in the response to this serious problem and will be looking for another make of car when I trade, which will be sooner than later. Subaru needs to step up and recognize this serious problem before lives are lost or serious injury inflicted.

After 41 years with this company I am very, very disappointed. I have the feeling that the fix would be so widespread and costly that they are choosing to ignore it.

We owned a 2014 Outback for a brief time and traded to a 2015 at less than 3000 km because of an undiagnosed yet prevalent problem of acceleration hesitation at slow speed or from a gentle start at a stop light or whatever. it would take from 2 - 6 seconds from pressing the acceleration until the car would move forward, and then usually with a jump start!! Guess what, our new 2015, which has less than 3000 km, has started doing the exact same thing. I have today reported the problem to our dealer and will await word!! That said, the 2015 Outback is a very nice vehicle, but this problem is a serious safety concern.
