This is a recurring issue. At one point the technician stated I had done "something" to cause this failure. I firmly stated that was not true. This is a known issue with these models. AFTER my warranty ended, the dealership began to discuss "ordering" a replacement part and the cost associated. I truly felt that they knowingly placed a bandaid on the issue until after my warranty had expired.

Outback LX 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 21,000 miles

When trying to raise the passenger window, it goes almost to the top and then opens again. It gets stuck either halfway down or all the way down. This happens when trying to raise with either the passenger or driver's side controls. It takes multiple tries to get it to remain closed.

This only happens periodically, I've taken it to the dealer, and it hasn't happened there. They seem to be very familiar with this issue and suggested cleaning the channel (rubber gasket ) which did not solve the problem. This problem is intermittent which is a challenge as you cannot fix problem, it is hit or miss with the suggested remedy.

When trying to raise the passenger window, it goes almost to the top and then opens again. It gets stuck either halfway down or all the way down. This happens when trying to raise with either the passenger or driver's side controls. It takes multiple tries to get it to remain closed.

This only happens periodically, I've taken it to the dealer twice, and it hasn't happened there, so they don't believe me. They've said they've reset the child proof (anti-pinch) feature, but it is still occurring about once a week.

Outback ES V4

Sometimes the passenger side window goes up and down randomly when I am trying to put it up from the driver's side. Then it stays in a partially open position. This doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally. Very annoying. Car is a few months old. I am trying to decide what to do about it.

Outback Model 2.5L

  • CVT transmission

Our 2015 Outback has exhibited quite sever wind noise right from new. Me thinks the cabin noise is considerably greater than our former 2006 Outback. I have reported the problem to my dealer and was told Subaru has received many complaints about this and have already designed a retrofit. I have not had this work done as yet, but am scheduled to have it done early May 15. I will report subsequently.

New car. I do love Subaru but I am thinking they are now growing too fast and quality is suffering. Have had to have both front seats replaced, now the window doesn't work, and there is an annoying popping sound in my speakers.

Outback Limited 3.6L

  • CVT transmission
  • 3,000 miles

Passenger side window did not function from either switch. Car was new. Problem may have been there right at or after purchase. As it was winter I did not try to open it. However, in another two complaints I mention that there is a design defect in certain relays that kept the car from opening and operating. All were repaired at the same time and it may (or may not) have been related.

In any event it appears Subaru has supplier problems with some electrical parts/switches.

The passenger side window does not operate from the driver's side controls. This problem was probably always present I just didn't use the controls for about a month after purchase.

Update from Jan 25, 2015: The dealership re-initialized the window (whatever that means) and it works now.
