WRX 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 30,000 miles

In April 2015 when I took it in for regular maintenance I mentioned that the car makes a screeching sound when cold started. Guy said leave it over night so we can cold start it in the morning. Day after he calls saying they couldn't replicate the sound. By the way this is at Puente Hills Subaru...took it in September 2015 for 30k service. Mentioned the sound is getting worse. Left it there over night and surely enough they can't replicate the sound. Funny thing is every time I leave the dealer the clutch feels different. As if they had adjusted it to lessen the noise. I've read a couple different cases here about the same problem... oh by the way, the guy who told me they couldn't replicate the noise is now saying that I need a new clutch. THE CAR ONLY HAS 30K MILES!!! I put 80k miles on my 2008 VW Rabbit no problem. A car that was half the price!!! I'm not spending 1800 bucks on a new clutch. Not sure what the hell I should do. Clutch isn't covered by warranty. I'm convinced that throw out bearing had a lot to do with it.

Car makes a really loud sound for the first 1-2 minutes of driving then slowly goes away. It seems to be louder if it has rained outside or is cold. Car drives without issue.

WRX Limited 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 6,100 miles

Brand new 2015 Subaru WRX, purchased in July 2014. Right around 800 miles or so, I noticed a loud screeching noise every morning when starting the car. The noise would last until the car warmed up. Searching online, it appears this can be attributed to the throw out bearing. I called up my local Subaru dealership (Capitol Subaru in San Jose) and scheduled a visit.

Capitol Subaru was able to confirm that the noise was coming from the throw out bearing. They said this was normal and that they had a brand new WRX on the lot that does the same thing. How can this be normal? How can a brand new car, with under 1000 miles, screech every morning when it is started? Capitol Subaru sent me home without fixing the issue.

The issue gets worse. Now my clutch pedal feels rough and pulsates when I push and release. I called Capitol Subaru again and they mentioned over the phone that this was normal and there was nothing that they would do. I next called Subaru directly and filed a ticket. After weeks, the Subaru rep finally got back to me and told me that they contacted Capitol Subaru and were told that there were no issues.

This is unacceptable. After reading about the outcome of other owners that have similar throw out bearing issues, I really want to have this fixed. It does not look like Subaru agrees. I am very, very disappointed. Every morning, as I drive to work, all I hear is the loud screeching noise of the throw out bearing. How can this be normal? All I can do is wait for the day that my clutch grenades because of the metal shards of the throw out bearing.

Subaru, if you read this, please contact me and have this issue resolved. The way things are going, this will be my LAST Subaru.

Update from Nov 20, 2015: Update: Went to another Subaru dealership and had the throw out bearing replaced under warranty. Noise was completely gone for about 5000 miles, but has since returned. This time, dealership is replacing throw out bearing and lever. We'll see how it goes this time. Wish Subaru would fix this flaw.
