4Runner SR5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 66,604 miles

The first time it happened was back in May 2018, then again, twice a few months later. I was slowing down for a light and the brakes locked up and I slid, it wasn't a hard brake, because I seen the light turn yellow from quite some distance ahead. The second time it happen my husband was driving on Sept. 24, 2018 and we were coming up to a curve in the road, he went to slow down and the brakes locked up sending us into the other lane. Then a few minutes later the same thing happen again, thankfully he was scared after the first incident and was going slow when the second incident happen. I'm afraid this is going to happen on a wet slippery road or when the snow comes and cause a bad accident. I took it to a mechanics shop to have it looked at back in May, and they couldn't find a problem with the car, but there is definitely something wrong!

4Runner Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I love the Toyota 4Runner, I use it to tow my boat and drive to work. The only problem I have is it has terrible braking performance. When you first push on the brakes it does not slow down without much more force than you would expect. If you push a little too hard it the brakes lock up and the vehicle slides and nose dives. The dealer can not find any issue. It has happen since day one. I test drove a new one this weekend and it seems all 4Runners have this problem. It has been the only anti-lock brakes vehicle I have owned that does this. I have learned to drive with the terrible braking but everyone that borrows it is terrified afterwards! ANYONE HAVE AFIX??

4Runner SR5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,470 miles

This is a re-occurrence of the problems previously reported. While applying pressure on the brake peddle the brakes lock and car skids. These are not panic stops, merely slowing with added pressure. My wife was driving when this incident happened and it was the 4th time it's has occurred when she was driving and it's happened twice when I was driving. The Toyota dealer in Wilsonville OR could not locate the problem when it first started. My concern is that it will happen when entering a curve or wet pavement or on snow.

4Runner SR5 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I have always felt that something was wrong with the braking on my 2013 Toyota 4Runner SR5. My first experience was that when approaching a corner in which the road may not be smooth the ABS system completely disengaged and the brake pedal became useless and the vehicle kept going.

The second incident was when my wife was driving she was approaching another vehicle that stopped abruptly she applied the brakes and she reported that the vehicle would not stop and starting sliding into the back of a Lincoln Navigator, no damage to the Lincoln, however my vehicle suffered under 2500 dollars of damage and the insurance just raised my premium 20.50% I am currently fighting this as there are 4 other complaints identical to mine. I have always been impressed with Toyota's products but this is a slap in the face FIX IT Toyota own up.

4Runner SR5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,700 miles

I was driving my vehicle to a nearby market and as I was driving on SW 95th Ave in Tualatin OR a vehicle pulled out in front of me. I applied the brakes firmly to allow him room. I did not have to make a panic stop as I was able to avoid a collision by slowing. However, the brake locked, squealed and the vehicle skidded. On August 14, 2015 I took the vehicle to Wilsonville Toyota and had the ABS system checked. They reported the ABS systems was operating as designed. They were not able to duplicate the skidding.

4Runner SR5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,100 miles

Today my wife was driving home on I205. As she approached traffic that had slowed she applied the brakes firmly but not at panic pressure. The pavement was wet from recent rain and as a result of simply stepping on the brake peddle the brakes locked, causing the vehicle to skid. She exited the freeway and drove home on secondary roads for fear of a recurrence. When she arrived home I drove the vehicle and attempted to reproduce the event but it would not skid.

4Runner SR5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,900 miles

I was driving from my residence in Tualatin OR to the city of Wilsonville to look at a property. I started to drive by the street in Wilsonville the property was located on and I applied the brakes forcefully to avoid missing my turn. In doing so it caused the brakes to lockup and the vehicle to skid. The pavement was dry so the brakes made the usual squealing sound. As I backed up I noticed there were skid marks on the pavement.
