4Runner SR5

The first day that I drove my new 2016 Toyota 4Runner home, there was this one time that I stepped on the gas, and nothing happened for a couple of seconds, then it went. I dismissed as maybe I though I push on the gas but didn't or maybe it was a new vehicle, and it was just a glitch. A few weeks later it happened again. Then a week or so later, I accelerated from being stopped at a light, the truck shot out and a second later, it quit accelerating, the car behind me, slammed on his brakes, almost rear ending me. After a second or two, it started accelerating again.

I took the truck back to the dealership, they check the engine codes, nothing! This continued time and time again, about once a month. After almost being hit in an intersection, I took it back and again the computer said nothing. Then on June 6, 2018, the 17th time I recorded this hesitation, a car screeched on its brakes and nearly hit me right in the side, because I couldn't get out of his way.

The dealership had the truck a full week, drove it and couldn't get the problem to replicate. They download the computer and printed out this long sheet of "triggers" that included several simultaneous brake and accelerator applications prompting Toyota to claim "operator error." Unfortunately, every date shown was when I was four wheeling in the woods, not when I was driving in the city and the June 6, 2018 event, was not on the list! I tested Toyota's simultaneous application of the brake and accelerator, and it is a completely different phenomena, not the same acceleration then nothing.

I found a similar customer complaint to mine, but Toyota says it has no way to look into other Car Complaints!?! I have a case number, but Toyota HQ says they can't fix a problem unless they know what it is. Since it only happen occasionally and the computer is oblivious to it, I'm just driving it carefully, because I can't trust it to accelerate in traffic situations.

I am giving them 4 more months to figure it out, then I'm done.
