problem #2

Avalon Touring 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 77,000 miles

I had this problem more than once, even after having the car serviced at the dealer. It always meant an extra trip to the dealership to have the light reset.

In hindsight, since I have now had to replace the transmission, I wonder if there truly was a problem with the engine which was never fully investigated.

problem #1

Feb 152011

Avalon XLS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,710 miles

I bought a '06 Avalon in Feb "07 with all the freedom plan and bells and whistles. A couple of times during the warranty the VSC and engine lights would come on in the dash. Take it in for service and problem wold be fixed if anything was found. Had to boost vehicle mid Feb '11 for some reason. Post boosting engine and VSC lights were on. By the time I got in for service they were gone off and no codes showed on the computer. No fix. Warranty expired Feb 22 '11. Late March '11 these lights came on again. They would stayon and go off intermittently as the days went by. Early April I noticed that the vehicle would hesitate upon acceleration and almost stall when driving on the highway. In for service. Have to replace to coil at a cost of $280.00. I wonder if this episode is in any way related to the episode in Feb when no codes showed up on the computer after boosting. I guess thatr now I have no warranty there will be a lot of these sort of things that will need to be replaced. I hope not. With low mileage such as this, 84,000 klms, this doesn't speak much for Toyota's reliability.
