Camry

  • Automatic transmission
  • 152,000 miles

I just had a new transmission placed in the vehicle in Jan 2020 which was under warranty with an extended warranty at the time. I was given a 6 month 6,000 mile warranty vehicle which was at 145k when the transmission was replaced in Jan. By March the vehicle was at 152k and the transmission went out again, this time check engine light and traction light came on.

Went back to dealership - the warranty company denied the replacement of transmission, stating it was 231 miles over the warranty limit of 6,000 miles. This is now at the cost of the consumer. Clearly this year make and model has had complaints about the transmission and this should be under a recall. Costs too much time and money to the consumer. I have had other Toyota Camry's before and never had issues with them.

Camry

  • Automatic transmission
  • 97,000 miles

When driving down the road, if I let off of the gas pedal to decelerate and then press on the gas pedal to speed back up, the car shakes, and acts like it doesn't want to shift. If I manually use the sequential shift to shift into 4th and then move the shiftier back into overdrive, it will shift. Otherwise, I have to let up on the gas and press it back down harder than normal to get it to speed up. I have taken this car to Wilsonville Toyota, and the mechanic drove it. He said he couldn't get it to do what I was describing. It happens on a daily basis, more than once per day to me, and I have had my husband in the car with me when it happened, so I have a witness.

At this point nothing has been done, and I was told that if it gets worse that I can bring it in and they can try test driving it again. I have had a lot of Toyotas, but this one has been a big disappointment and I don't plan on buying another Toyota. I feel the quality has really gone down the tubes, not to mention the service.

Update from May 29, 2016: I left my car with the dealer for a couple of weeks and determined there was a transmission issue. They did not want to honor the warranty, since the car had over 100000 miles on it. We had taken the car in before the 100000 miles, but they stated the mechanic drove the car and could not reproduce what it was doing when we noticed it. My husband contacted the GM, and worked out a deal, so we could trade the car in on a new model. We are hoping the last Camry was a lemon, and the new one will hold up for us. This is the 7th Toyota we have owned. and we never had any issues until the last (sixth) one.
