We bought this 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid in January 2007. I started noticing the dashboard began to get sticky and shiny. I've never used any harsh chemicals or any chemicals used to clean the dashboard. The rest of the car is well taken care of but as the years went by, the dashboard has just gotten worse. I began doing research and found that others had the same problem. Many have been told it's not part of the warranty. I believe it's a manufacture's defect. Not only is it dirty looking, it also has a shine to it and that has potential to be very dangerous. Especially on a bright sunny day, the shine from the dashboard reflects up to the windshield making it very difficult to see and the same issue arises when driving at night.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid. The contact stated that the dashboard surface was melting and became sticky. Due to the failure, a glare appeared on the windshield which distorted the contact's vision whenever the sun was out. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for a diagnosis. The service manager contacted the manufacturer directly. The manufacturer informed the service manager that the problem was only considered an aesthetic problem and would not repair the problem free of charge. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 360,981...updated 10/02/14 updated 2/27/2015

Almost immediately after purchasing this car, I noticed that the paint seemed to be easily scratched and chipped. I have multiple chipped places on the car that are beginning to rust. In addition, the clear coat is getting thin or something on the trunk of the car and the paint is looking very dull. I always take care of the car and washed and waxed it often. This weak paint job will most definitely affect resale value. In addition, the plastic pieces that are on the undercarriage of the car have come loose and fallen off or had to be taken off one by one.

Check vsc system warning, ABS, multi lights on. When buzz sound continually arms, it is so hard to apply brake pedal to stop completely. The brakes are out of control. It is a defect from manufacture, not a using consumer. The brake system is so important when moving. Please recall to fix before causing deathly accident.

Stop and go traffic on the 101 eb going 10 mph at 8:50 am. Tried to stop and brakes failed. I tried again to stop and brakes failed. Ran into the left rear of car in front of me. We were all moving slowly so damage to his car was less than mine. But the feeling of not being able to stop the car was traumatic! car is not due for service for another 1000 miles. It is serviced regularly by dealer.

Car parked in sun, dashboard material getting very sticky/gooey. If touched, it gets damaged. It shows a very shiny appearance when hot ( like if you used a tire shine on it), on sunny days it creates a lot of glare on the windshield affecting visibility. Dash cannot be wiped with anything because it is very sticky and gooey. I can accept dashboard damage on a 10year plus car, but not on a 6 year old car.this is clearly a material defect and it prompts for a recall. Specially because of the glare on the front windshield the dash creates when it is very hot.

Toyota Camry hybrid 2007 black paint is defective design technology. Toyota changed to a water based paint two years ago, and the product is a manufacturer's defective design and process. Toyota is hiding this fact from its customer base. Call Toyota corporate get case number and complaint like crazy. File a complaint with NHTSA. Be honest, you paid a lot of money for a defective paint job and they knew it. Never buy a Toyota again!
