Corolla LE 1.8L Vvti

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,760 miles

Car was warmed up with over 60 miles driven today, over 10 miles of highway driving since the last stop. Temp in the 50's, dry & sunny. I was driving along in traffic at about 45 mph. I released the gas slightly as I getting close to the vehicle in front of me. We were descending a very grade and the transmission just down shifted hard, I'm assuming it shifted from Drive or 4th down to 3rd, tach immediately jumped up over 3000 RPM from roughly 2100-2200 rpm. It stayed in 3rd gear for about 5 - 6 seconds and returned to Drive when I depressed the gas pedal to maintain speed. At this time I was at the bottom of the hill.

Corolla LE 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

In automatic car wash, car in neutral when the car started going backwards! Looked at dashboard and shifter - still in neutral. Thought it was a problem with car wash but car behind me was continuing to come forward. Put car in drive to pull out. Afterwards manager came to me to ask if I knew I had put car in reverse. I told him I had not and had looked and was still in neutral at the time! This follows on the heels of the accelerator pedal getting stuck on highway just a week ago. I thought it was the plastic mat which I then removed. Now I am not so sure. Has anyone else experienced the car shifting from neutral to reverse? It is still under warranty.
