I noticed this problem after a couple of months I got this car, every time my kids need to put their backpacks after school I felt so frustrated because the trunk was so hard to open and I discovered the only way to open it was only when I used the key control

Brand new car. Have seen other owners reporting the same problem. Trunk lid has fallen on my wife's head and also my son. When car is parked on level ground, it will stay up, but if on a 5 degree incline it will fall. Also if a windy condition exist from the front of the car it will definitely fall on you.

I purchased a new 2010 Corolla in Oct 2010. I noticed right away the trunk lid would not stay in full up position, as I was hit on the head several times (rather hard) before realizing it was a permanent problem. I assumed all trunk lids regardless of model, had spring mechanisms that were tight enough or strong enough to keep the lid open and/or up regardless of where it was stopped - but especially in the full up position. In my opinion, this is a safety issue. I recently remembered to point out this problem to the service department of the dealership where I purchased the car. Since I also purchased an extended warranty, a replacement part called a "hinge tortion bar" has been ordered. I can't imagine this will work since this problem wasn't something that has developed over time, but was present when the car was new. However, I'll update these comments after the repairs.
