problem #1

Jun 102014

Highlander Limited 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

The backup camera screen takes a dangerously long time to come on. The backup screen isn't ready until a full 10 seconds after turning the car on. That's all it would take to back over something. Fail #1.

10 seconds may not sound like a lot of time, but next time you jump in your car in a rush somewhere, see how fast you shift into reverse & start moving after you turn the ignition & I bet it's less than 5 seconds.

When someone shifts into reverse, the backup view should get priority over the animated "Highlander" logo & the fancy system check animation. The system check does nothing visually useful to the driver. For instance if a door is open, it's a big deal right? You don't even get notified until the backup camera shuts off. Fail #2.
