Prius Hybrid

I was traveling in town on a residential street when the full sized pickup in front of me suddenly stepped hard on the brakes. I stepped hard on mine and the tires AND brakes completely locked up. The road was somewhat slushy and the car just continued to careen forward without even a hiccup or any indication the brakes were even being applied. I wasn't traveling very fast, maybe 30 km/h and there was enough space between myself and the truck that I should've had no problem stopping in plenty of time, however, the car just kept going and slammed right into the back of the truck before stopping.

The airbag did not deploy and there was very little damage to the truck, however, the Prius is a write off and I've now been charged with careless driving. I've been told I should be able to plead to 'following too close' but I shouldn't have to plead to that either. If things had been working correctly I SHOULD have stopped long before hitting the truck.

I'm wondering if others have had the same/similar issues and if you would mind posting your experiences here? If I can show these cars have braking issues then all charges will be dropped and I'll be able too keep my job.
