problem #4

Prius

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,000 miles

Lights go out randomly and sometimes they come back on with turned off and on again. Sometimes just the right headlight goes out then randomly comes back on. I will have to get this repaired because it is too dangerous to drive at night.

Update from May 4, 2021: Toyota dealership said it was the computers in the HID bulbs that were failing so they replaced the bulbs at a cost of $530 parts and labor.

Prius

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

The right headlight turns off intermittently and usually doesn't turn on with startup. By turning the lights on an off the light may come back on. This can be very dangerous if it happens while I am driving. Apparently this is a known problem and there hasn't been a recall

Prius Touring 1.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 95,000 miles

Very annoying problem with the headlights. Often one will go out, maybe we won't notice, then turn high beams on, then back to low beams and... zip-no lights at all. Only solution so far is to turn off light switch momentarily then back on and lights come on again.

The proposed fix ($400+) for a non-functioning headlight is a rip off. Should make an LED replacement for 1/10th of that cost.
