Had my 2006 Toyota rav 4 in the dealership for recall services. I also had recommended maintenance tuneup and brake fluid drain and refill. When I left the parking lot of the dealership, I crossed 2 lanes of traffic, braked, waited for alternate traffic to pass before turning onto the city street with my foot still on brake, the car accelerated, lurched then accelerated again without me pressing on the gas and continuing to brake when it accelerated. I called the dealership back the next morning and they towed it back in. After they performed several tests and test drive it they could not get it to duplicate the same thing. There were two previous occurrences that I did not report to this entity shortly after I purchased the car used. They happened close together and not again until the most recent event. I believe the prohibitive cost of throttle body and accelerator pedal module ($1,519.40) which are the necessary repairs to actually fix the problem and not the floor mats, is why the previous owner sold the car to me. No warning forthcoming, even though I did ask.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that there had been extensive smoke coming from the muffler, strong fumes and a loud noise progressed. A police officer cautioned the contact to get the vehicle repaired or that he may be potentially ticketed with this being a safety hazard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the muffler. The contact later received a special service coverage campaign letter in which the manufacturer stated that the dealer was to replace the muffler. The dealer refused to service the voluntary campaign from the manufacturer. The contact was uncertain as to why the manufacturer and the dealer had not complied to replace the part with a newly designed oem muffler. The failure mileage was not available.

Dear officer, I would like to bring your attention to a serious flaw with certain Toyota models related to excessive oil consumption. Bowing down to the thousands of consumer complaints early this year Toyota accepted that it is issue with their engine design which can put engine on fire or make the car completely useless after seize. Toyota indicated that they would provide parts early this spring, yet it is the end of June, and Toyota (a giant car manufacturer) still does not have parts to fix the serious problem Toyota consumers are suffering thru every day. The issue: Certain Toyota model cars burn excessive oil. The proof of issue(from internet) 1. Toyota engine excessive oil consumption www.toyotaproblems.com/trends 2. Toyota named in class action lawsuit over excessive oil usage gotaclassaction.com/ 3. excessive oil consumption on 2az-fe engine www.toyoheadquarters.com 4. class action lawsuit filed over Toyota oil consumption www.consumerclasslawyersblog.com/ 5. "all Toyota burn engine oil!" and "burning 1 litre of engine... https://gripevine.com/ the impact: Life endangerment, risk of engine fire, people left stranded in the middle of nowhere, constant strain of checking the oil every few days, financial losses to consumers and heavy impact on environmental pollution Toyota response: Delay in accepting the responsibility, cannot arrange parts for repair, test method puts consumer at risk. The request for solution: The american Toyota consumers are looking for the government concerned organization to take stringent actions against Toyota America to protect the lives and money against such practices and provide safe environment. If the governing bodies don't do anything, it will be encouragement for other car manufactures, and will have drastic impact on the lives of millions of american. Thank you!

Approximately one month ago the following warning signs appeared on my dash board: Check engine vsc 4WD maint reqd I went to see a mechanic right away. He told me that a part known as an air sensor had stopped working. He gave me the following identification for the part: 02 sensor bank1 sensor1 he also told me that I needed to order the part through the dealer on the internet; I was not successful for there was no one responding with having the orinal toyata part. Next I called a local Toyota dealer who told me that the part in question was on back order nationwide for a wait of at least 3 months! meanwhile, I am told thati should expect higher gas consumtions and other related problems until the part was replace. I, as I am sure many other car owner, am outraged to be told that I have to wait at least 3 months for a part and then be placed on a long waiting list. This is the kind of staff, I thought tht only happened in controlled economies! this is costing me money in higher gas consumtion while the company is nowhere to be found with a satisfactory explaination and apology to customers!

At approximately 81000 miles, rav-4 started to burn oil at a rate of two quarts per every 3000 miles. Now at 120,000 miles, it burns one quart every 1000 miles. By comparison, my 1987 Toyota Camry does not burn a drop.

As of 9/16/14 our 2006 Rav4 V6 currently has 45,790 miles and we just got a diagnostic from a Toyota dealership service that this part is defective a charcoal canister and an B1S2 O2 sensor needs replacement. Me and my wife love the SUV but with such low miles I would not have expected for this to have happened. From my quick research, I understand this could cause more engine damage if not repaired, I see a decrease in miles per gallon and a rough idling. I wanted to know if there is a recall for this part which is a charcoal canister and the O2 sensor. Toyota wanted $1,303 total repair and for this low milage vehicle is not what I expect from a quality vehicle.
