RAV4 Sport 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

Actually the vehicle loss its power. I verified each week the engine oil level, but discovered that the oil level directly affects the brake pedal level.

Toyota understands that the oil level is not a security issue but the sensor of low level engine oil is very low which affects the performance of the brakes more than expected. The ECU do not present any codes to inform any problem with the engine or brakes.

If Toyota does not investigate we have a mayor issue. My hypothesis is the seal of the engine do not provide enough vacuum to booster.

The vehicle was in proper maintenance schedule, but Toyota does not cover with any recall.

RAV4 Sport 2.4L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,059 miles

I recently bought a 2008 RAV-4 Sport from Guelph Toyota. It has 88,000 kilometers. I have discovered by chance that with moderate continuous pressure on the brake pedal, the brake pedal will sink to about 1 inch from the floor. The brakes do bring the vehicle to a stop with little pressure on the brake pedal, however if one continues to apply moderate pressure I find it disconcerting that the brake pedal sinks so close to the floor. I paid to have the brakes bleed, there was no change. As I was not happy with the brake situation, I sent several emails to the management of Guelph Toyota. They changed the brake master cylinder at their cost. There still was no change to the brakes. I informed the technician that there was no change to the brakes and he stated that there was nothing else that could be done. I then emailed Toyota Canada and they gave me a case number 1833915, and emailed me that my file is being sent to their Review Team and pending the outcome of their review with my dealership, I may expect a call back from either a member of the Review Team or my Dealership's Management. I received a call from Guelph Toyota and was told to bring the vehicle in. They demonstrated to me that their other used RAV-4s on their lot are the same and that this brake performance is normal for RAV-4s. I do not see what else I can do except trade it in for another brand of vehicle. Any comments?

RAV4 Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 19,263 miles

I bought my RAV4 2008 V6 Limited in October 2010 from Toyota Dealer with 31000 Kms on it. From the first day I bought it, the Brakes were not working effectively. I had to push the Brake pedal hard right up to the floor to make the brakes work. Brakes do not engage until the brake pedal is pressed fully down. Even then the stopping distance is double than my other vehicles. Within the first month of buying this SUV, I have just escaped two times from hitting other vehicles on the road. I have been trying to convince the Service Department of the Dealer, but every time they are saying that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and this is the way the Toyota RAV4 brakes work. Now because I am driving the vehicle, I know that there is big problem in the brakes. I called Toyota Canada and told them about it. They simply said that I should contact the service manager of the dealer. I have been talking to the service manager many times, but he is also saying that there is nothing wrong. Actually after having hundreds and thousands of recalls and faults in Toyota Vehicles, Toyota has instructed its dealers that they should always keep on saying that there is nothing with the vehicles. Now I am requesting them to change the Rotors and Brake pads on my cost (The Vehicle is still under full warranty) to see if it improves.

Overall my conclusion is - NEVER EVER ANY TOYOTA VEHICLE AGAIN.
