I have owned many Toyota rav4 over the last 10 years and have really liked them, this 2009 rav4 awd sport has a very high whine between 40 and 90 km. I had it put up on the hoist at the Toyota dealership and they said it was coming from the transfer case/transmission area, It has only 114000 km and started to make the noise around 95000 km. when it was under warranty but they said it was the tires. I have asked many people that I have met in parking lots and they say that they are having the same noise starting now too. now that mine is is not covered under warranty it will cost me around $6500. to fix.I got hold of the head Toyota office and have not heard back from them. I am very unhappy with rav4. now I have read up on 2006 to 2011 rav4 there is many of them doing the same thing, there should have be a callback.

I have the same issue, i went to Toyota and technician told me that it common issue in this model and toyota only fix it free if it is under 100,000 miles otherwise you are on your own. Not sure if the Toyota team will come forward and fix this issue to keep the Toyota reputation UP?
