Got a teeny stone chip near top/center of windshield that caused a huge crack which cost $300 to replace the WS. $50 of the cost is due to the sound insulated, double glass layers. According to Consumers Reports, the WS was modified in 2016 to reduce the sound transmission thru the WS make a quieter ride. Apparently the outer layer of glass is too thin. Have experienced many stone bruises and knicks on many cars in the past and they never caused cracking. This suggests a design flaw. increase the thickness/strength of outer glass layer
