I've noticed the VSC and TRAC OFF lights coming on more often over the past couple weeks while driving on local surface streets, but no other issues. This has happened from time to time since I got the vehicle and I learned to ignore it since it didn't seem to be associated with an issue.

Then on 7/18, I drove to an appointment an hour from home. Before making the return drive a couple hours later, I stopped for gas. Roughly 40 minutes later - while driving at highway speed on a straight dry road on a hot Houston day - my VSC OFF and TRAC OFF lights suddenly came on accompanied by a loud high pitched alarm. The steering seemed to grind and drag. Felt like the suspension was breaking apart. VERY scary since I was in the left lane with no shoulder. I decreased my speed to about 60 and moved to the right hand land. After a several seconds, the alarm and grinding/dragging stopped before I could get off the highway. The lights stayed lit. I kept going home without any further difficulty, wondering if it could be caused by low tire pressure.

Before I used the vehicle the next day, I checked the tire pressure and they were all about 32.5 psi so I inflated them to 35 psi. The next day I drove 40 minutes into town without incident, but on the way back home (several hours later and at night, so it was cooler) the same thing happened about 20 minutes into the drive, again at highway speeds. This time, the dragging and grinding was worse and the alarm lasted much longer. Again, it mysteriously stopped as I was preparing to exit the highway.

I have no idea what's causing it, but I'm afraid to drive it now.
