problem #3

Sienna

  • 70,000 miles
The rear tailgate/hatch has failed and closes on the person underneath. I took it to Toyota because I had heard of a recall, but they have informed me that the recall only involved struts/pistons on the automatic doors - what about the manually operated tailgate/hatch on these vehicles" luckily the person that got hit by the hatch was not seriously injured. Both struts/pistons have failed and Toyota wants $360 to repair it. Can you advise of any other reports have been filed"

Sienna 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles
Rear tailgate was opened to remove groceries and it suddenly came down on my son as he was removing a bag. He was hit in the back of the head and shoulder. The tailgate now comes down after either using the manual or automatic lift. Has not been repaired, have faulty part (appears to be one of the external lift struts).
