I thought they had fixed this problem before the 2011 vehicles came out. Too much money for a car with problem like this

Toyota has a reputation for reliability, so we spent extra money thinking we were buying quality. Yet this vehicle now has a huge repair bill with relatively low miles. We do not drive it like maniacs, and though our roads are not perfect, they are not backwoods-rough either. I don't understand why this major steering component has failed... seemingly for no reason. Is it because 2011 is the first year for the re-designed steering system? (As of 2011 it is Electric Power Steering, as opposed to the old hydraulic steering rack for 2010 and earlier). BUYER BEWARE!!
