Tacoma SR5 4X2 Access Cab V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

This has been an on-going problem since I purchased the vehicle in 2008. I’ve had the roof and the hood repainted twice already when rust started showing. I’ll need to have the truck repainted soon as rust is starting to appear again. I’ve checked on multiple occasions with the dealer for recalls - none so far. I’ve noticed numerous dark blue Tacomas on the road with similar problems.

Did not have my truck long before the clear coat started peeling on he roof. Spoke with Toyota and they said there was nothing they could do. I had purchased this truck brand new and it just saddens me that they refused to do any thing about it. Will think twice before buying another Toyota. I feel very let down.

I have loved this truck so far. Then suddenly noticed paint flaking off of 1/3 of cab on truck. When I went for an estimate, the paint shop owner stated that it looked like a problem during the original factory painting of the truck. Stating that 1/3 of the top of the cab didn't seem to have received all paint layers needed.

OMG at my age and I do love my truck but really to see all the flaking, chipping and peeling of the paint on my Tacoma, should have just used white out and saved thousands and it keeps growing.

Considering buying a new truck, but wonder if the paint problems have been resolved. I see lots of Toyotas that look the same or worse. My truck still runs good, but looks terrible. Anything Toyota can do to convince me to buy another one or recommend Toyota to my friends would be great.

Contacted local Toyota Dealer today about paint flaking off on hood and roof of truck. They said it was due to the elements such as rain.....They will not fix the issue and suggested a body shop. Toyota, where is your pride in your brand??? You know this is wrong and we paid your price for your brand, are we wrong believing and supporting you?

Paint bubbled on the roof and is now flaking/peeling off. I never had it painted so there should be no reason the paint is doing this. I took it to Toyota dealership, and they told me go to body shop. I took it to the body shop and they told me they have to paint the entire roof. Called Toyota Corporate and didn't get anyway because I am out of warranty.

In March of 2015 I noticed several spots of clear coat peeling, just above the windshield also on all 4 fenders. I contacted Toyota of Walnut Creek, Ca. and was advised to contact Toyota USA. Toyota of Walnut Creek took photos of the problem and forwarded them to Toyota USA. An appointment was made for Toyota USA's agent to look at the paint. After waiting all day at my home for some sort of contact from the agent, I called the dealer and was told to come pick up the truck.

When I asked the service people at the dealership what went on, they had no idea, The work sheet only had that my claim was denied, no reason or explanation. I asked how to contact whoever it was that inspected the truck, no one knew. I would think that even though Toyota refused any responsibility, they would have had the courtesy of at least contacting me to discuss their reasoning. Since I am only a customer, I guess they shouldn't have to talk to me.

Just to let Toyota know, my first Toyota was a Corona, my next two were Camry's, the next one was a Highlander Limited, the last one I will ever buy was the Tacoma. You can do without me, the same as I can do without you.

Tacoma TRD V6

The clear coat is now in total failure. First started around wheel wells couple years ago--thought no problem, just take to Carsmetics to have it fixed since they have served me well in the past. No problemo. Now the top of the truck looks like it has dandruff. Yesterday I noticed the hood is now infected, starting at the windshield.

I love my truck, but it is starting to look really crappy and I am not happy. I have never had this problem with my other Toyota trucks (this is my 4th) My last one I had for 18 yrs and the clear coat was starting to wear off due to age, not flake off. I am not a happy camper. I called Toyota and they probably not going to anything. Told me to take it to the dealer to see if it is a defect or due to environmental. I am sure it is going to be deemed environmental. I have not got a paint estimate but I am sure it is going to be megabucks (for me).

Other that the crappy clear coat paint, I am very pleased with my truck.

This truck is babied by my wife and doesn't hardly even leave the pavement. Yet the clear coat started peeling off. Then shortly afterwards the paint was fading and even chipping off. It started on the roof and fenders and now the hood is doing it. We took it to the shop and they said it was a total repaint. I have a Dodge that is an 04 with well over 100,00 miles and it looks brand new compared to her Toyota. If Toyota doesn't want to fix it it will probably be the last one I buy.

There is a defect with the Blue Tacoma that are 2006 or around that year. Every time I see a Blue Tacoma on the road you can tell the paint on the roof is peeling and fading and deteriorating. I had my roof fixed but not it is happening to the rest of the truck. It is obviously something that should be covered under a recall but I have yet to see one yet.

Well, as soon as I paid my truck off then the paint started to flake off of the hood. I am so aggravated because by the time that I paid everything......I think that it totaled $35,000.00....What a deal? Just kidding......never again from a dealership......I will have to have the whole truck repainted because it has lost all sheen and is starting to rust....ridiculous......

Tacoma SR5 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 76,000 miles

In January 2012 while washing my white Tacoma 4x4 double cab pickup, I noticed small cracks in the paint on my hood. When I went over this area with a sponge, a flake of paint approximately the size of a quarter popped off. The gray primer under the paint remained on the hood. Since this time, several other areas on the hood have flaked off. More cracks have developed and the paint continues to bubble up from the cracks and flake off. I now have spots that are 6 inches across. Rust is beginning to develop in the areas where the primer is exposed. I spoke to several paint shops and all have told me that there is a compatibility problem with the paint and primer, something Toyota should stand behind. I have gotten absolutely nowhere with my local Toyota dealership. They keep telling me that the factory rep will set up an appointment to look at my truck. I have been waiting for over 2 months for this.

large paint flakes are coming off the hood of truck

I have a white 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 with TRD package. I spent over $28,000 on the truck, bought new. I hand wash it regularly and keep it waxed. The paint bagan to dull a couple of years ago, but I did not complain. I few months ago when washing the hood, a flake of paint about the size of a quarter came off about 2 inches from the the front edge. Since then more paint contineues to flake off around this spot, but more is coming off in other spots. I not have 6 or 7 large spots on the hood that have no paint. The primer is still intact but the paint just turns loose. I also have bubbling of the finish on the alloy wheels. I am very disappointed in the quality of this vehicle and will never purchase another Toyota. Toyota has definitely let their quality go to the bottom.
