both tail gate cables failed at the same time both tail gate cables failed at the same time both tail gate cables failed at the same time

I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra Crew Max truck. I really like this truck, however, last weekend me and a friend was sitting on the tail gate and both of the cables of the tail gate broke at the same time and we feel to the ground. After looking at the cables the outside plastic coating was in good shape however both cables was rusted and there wasn't a good strand of cable, it was rusted. Not to mention it caused $926 of damage to my tail gate with a crease where it landed on the plastic top of the bumper area.

I called Toyota and they are going to help out with the repair costs, however, it didn't cover the total. I would suggest if you have an 2006 or older model truck you better replace those cables. Also, they broke right where they bend as you open and close the tail gate. I have been a very faithful Toyota owner since 1990 and will continue to be, however, Toyota should have a recall on this before it gets worse.

Update from Nov 18, 2014: The costs went up now I have to replace the tail gate at $1400.00 and Toyota is only going to cover $750.00
