problem #2

Tundra SR5 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,500 miles

The 2006 Tundra passenger side airbag cover is sticky to the touch and this gets much worse if it is parked in the hot sun. I called the local Toyota dealer and they had not heard of the problem. It appears to be the same problem the Florida owner reported and very similar to the car dash problems that Toyota issued a recall for.

passenger side dash air bag cover degraded and sticky

We have probably all experienced the nasty sticky mess of degraded plastic. Well I would have never expected to find it under the dash cover of my 2006 Toyota Tundra. I have always protected the dash with a custom cover and the other day I took it off to check for dust, bugs, etc. I was shocked to find that the cover of my passenger air bag was an icky sticky mess. I took the truck to my Toyota Dealer and was informed that the cover would cost over $1,000 to replace. I called Toyota in California and was told that there was no recall on that cover. (yet) How many others have had a problem with cheap degrading plastic on the dash of their vehicle?

Update from Feb 8, 2016: The passenger side airbag cover on my 2006 Toyota Tundra is still deteriorating and Toyota Corporate has still refused to cover the replacement cost.
