problem #1

Aug 242018

Tundra Limited 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 28,000 miles

This problem has happened several times now. First time while driving on freeway the truck just stopped running. There were no "CHECK ENGINE" lights on. This happened in Palm Springs,CA. After 3/4's of an hour the truck finally started. Made it back to Hotel where wife and I was staying at. Really didn't think too much about it at the time. Next morning went to gas station and filled tank. That night wife and I went to a casino for a couple of hours, when we got in truck, same problem it would not start. no "CHECK ENGINE" lights were on again. After that we headed home to Westchester,CA. The truck ran good going home.

Took the truck to our mechanic we have used several years now. He check the codes and other things, he was stymied. Never heard of that problem before. Suggested carrying both sets of keys to check if that happened again was the dis engage light on dash going out after key was entered, it was. This all took place in latter part of 2017.

This year 8/24/2018, we were going to Las Vegas, to visit friends, made it 30 miles past Barstow, was passing a line of semi's and then no power, truck had just turned itself off going 70 MPH. Managed to get off the interstate 15 N, again no 'CHECK ENGINE" light on. Truck dash lights work would light up when trying to start it. Well an hour later the Highway Patrol pulled behind us,told him what happened, he got our AAA card called a station and said if it happens to start, call AAA back, so it would not go as a service call.

About 45 mins, later it started and we made it to our destination, didn't use truck for 5 days after that. On our way home I decided to drive half the distance then get some lunch then continue home, thinking maybe fuel pump was getting hot to cause truck to shut down. We made it home without any further problems. Since those problems, the truck has only stopped one more time.

Called Toyota dealer where I purchased the truck new in 2008, he tells me that he has never heard of that problem for the 2007 Toyota Tundra Limited before this. There was only 28500 miles on truck, since then there is 29105 miles. Toyota wants a chunk of change to try to find the problem. I have checked web sites about this year Toyota truck, and have found a dozen or so with same problem " truck shutting down with no warning and would not restart for an amount of time. Also no CHECK ENGINE lights come on.

So there is my problem, would like too know if any readers have experienced this. Thanks
