The contact owned a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated the while driving at 65 mph, the front passenger tire started shaking uncontrollably which caused him to veer off the side of the road and into an embankment. The vehicle dropped 25 feet into a creek and landed on its right side, knocking the contact unconscious. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The driver side door had to be pried open by emergency officials in order to rescue the contact. A police report was filed. The contact was immediately transported to a local hospital where he was treated for whiplash, cuts and lacerations to the right side of his body, a slight concussion, and a bruised right rib. The vehicle was totaled at the scene and was towed to an independent mechanic. His insurance then had the vehicle towed to their facilities where the vehicle was deemed a total loss. The dealer nor the manufacturer have been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 218,000.

A report was filed on this incident under complaint number11171605. I'm looking for a follow up. Has there been any recalls on these airbags? I am of the opinion that my airbag was over pressurized thereby knocking me out for about 10 to 12 minutes and causing me serious bodily injuries, I.e. several bulging and herniated disc, a fracture L5, and hair line fracture of ribs. It's been almost 2 yrs. And I'm still suffering from neck and back pain and I have had a back operation to repair my L5.

On 01-08-2018 I had a mva in which the front of my truck struck another vehicle and my air bag was deployed. As you may judge from the picture the impact was minimal. The other vehicle, a 2003 Honda civic, was drivable, while my much bigger truck was not due to my condition and the deployed air bag. I was knock out approximately 5 to 7 minutes, I made this estimate by the arrival of winter park pd. I also suffered two fractured ribs on my right arm pit area and one on my left arm pit area, this was according to the er doctor and a fracture of my L5 vertebrae according to my mri report. Four herniated disc and six bulging. It is my sincere believe that some if not all this personal injuries I suffered were related to an over pressured air bag system. Although there are no recalls on my truck, I feel a need to register my complaint. As noted on my pd report I had just initiated a U-turn so I could not have been traveling more than 15 mph on lee rd. (a paved city street). See also ODI 11287678.

Airbag light goes on and off, took it to the Toyota dealer as the owner manual indicates. Diagnose code B1801 open spiral cable part# 155740. When the light is on the air system is disabled and will not deploy if in an accident. When researching if this is common or not, there are a lot of Tundra owners with the same problem. This spiral cable is either a defective part Toyota used or a design flaw therefore should be recalled and fixed. Toyota dealer wants over 750 dollars to replace the spiral cable. Since it goes on and off, Toyota owners will have to be lucky if they get into an accident and hope the light is off at the time so the airbags will work.

I let my boyfriend drive my 2008 Toyota Tundra to work. He was on his way home following the flow of traffic at 68mph and two cars ahead slammed on their breaks to avoid the traffic stop and the three cars collided. My Toyota Tundra sustained the most damage bashing the entire front-end of the vehicle. A women at the front of the collision was treated for back injuries. My boyfriend did not sustain any injuries thanks the grace of god because the airbags in the Toyota Tundra did not deploy.
