Golf SportWagen

  • Automatic transmission

Car examined by Bob Baker Volkswagen, Oceanside, CA because of a worn bearing sounding noise. Extensive repair to suspension, brakes and rear wheel bearings replaced were $4,777. NOISE WAS NOT FIXED. A second examination located the noise and replacement of the rear final drive differential was recommended. Cost of new assembly without installation = $5600.

Diagnosis confirmed by another VW auto-repair shop and new differential is being installed, 4/19/2022.

Differentials DO NOT FAIL at this LOW MILEAGE.

The makers 5 year drive chain warranty extends from the date of manufacture - NOT THE DELIVERY DATE - so it has expired even though the car was purchased new less than 5 years ago.

I am PISSED at Volkswagen.
